Middle School Travel Opportunities

Grissom students on spring 2017 DC trip PHM students on Europe trip summer 2014 PHM Middle School Trip to China spring 2017

Bringing the world to students and students to the world!

Penn-Harris-Madison believes there is immense value in enhancing students’ understanding and comprehension of globalization and history through experiential learning opportunities. Annually, we offer one week trips to Washington, D.C. for 8th graders.

Qualified 7th and 8th grade students also have the opportunity for international travel. Typically a group comprised of 7th and 8th grade students from all three middle schools will visit Europe one summer and then Asia the next summer.

The safety of our students and staff is the number one priority for P-H-M, that is why we partner with the EF Educational Tours for our Asia and European trips. As our trusted educational partner, P-H-M has conducted numerous tours with EF. The company has more than 50 years of experience providing a 24/7 Tour Director who is able to connect with a local EF office present in 53 countries around the world.

21st Century Scholarship Program

21st Century Scholars logo

Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars Program offers income-eligible Indiana students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. Students must be enrolled in the program by 8th  grade and the family must meet income eligibility guidelines. In middle and high school, 21st Century Scholars are connected to programs and resources to help them prepare for college. Once in college, Scholars receive support to complete their college degrees and connect to career opportunities.

Visit www.scholars.in.gov/parents/enroll for more details on the program and how to enroll.

The Guidance Office can also answer more questions about the program and help students who meet the eligibility requirements with the enrollment process

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences October 2018

Student Council took on a leadership role in decorating the Grissom School front entrance walkway to provide a welcoming fall season look to the school for our visiting family guests who attended Student Led Conferences in October.

Student Council Representatives and Officers Greeted our incoming families during the Student Led Conferences offering warm or cold cider, and giving tours or directions as needed.

They also decorated the entryway of our school with lovely decorations.

The student created their own portfolios they could show their parents. These presentations included artifacts from different classes to highlight their best work!

Thanks to the Student Council for their hard work in decorating the school and making our guests feel welcome. Thanks also to all the parents who attended to celebrate their students and support their teachers!

What is Student Council?

Student Council is a fun place where the students can come together, grow as leaders, and plan for Grissom’s spirit days and socials. The students are able to plan what they want and they know what other students would want to do.

Student Council is a way to build leaders and respect authorities. These students will then be able to set an example to those in their classes. Student Council also teaches students how to communicate with others. In the meetings, kids express their ideas through talking to others and our staff advisor, Mr. Gingrich. In order for the classes to know when school events are (and why they are happening), the representatives and the alternates tell their first hour class what is coming up and how to do the events.

Upcoming events:

                    Socials
Sep. 20th -6th grade ONLY Social  4-5:30
Dec. 6th – All School Social 4-5:30
Feb. 7th – 7th grade ONLY Social  4-5:30
