Welcome to the Grissom Middle School Media Center!


Grissom’s book check out policies:

  • Students may have up 4 books checked out at a time.
  • Books are due in 4 weeks.
  • Students should take care to return the book in the condition in which it was checked out.

The Media Specialist can help your student search for books within his/her Lexile reading level.



Open Hours:

Students may visit the Media Center during lunch after obtaining a pass from the cafeteria supervisors on the following days:

Monday and Tuesday during 6th grade lunch

Wednesday and Thursday during 7th grade lunch

Thursday and Friday during 8th grade lunch

Grissom’s Media Center is also open Monday and Friday before school, from 8:45 until 9:00.

OverDrive eBooks:

Penn-Harris-Madison students and staff have access to OverDrive eBooks via the following link.

For students to login, enter the student ID number in the “library card number” box. Then enter student’s last name (lower case).
Please be aware that this is a shared resource with Penn High School and many of the titles available may not be appropriate for all middle school students.



Inspire Indiana:

Inspire Indiana is a service of the Indiana State Library and is open to all Indiana residents to use and offers a wealth of research opportunities for students and their families.

Using Alexandria allows students to see what books are available for checkout at Grissom.

If you want to search by your lexile score, click on “login” in the upper left hand corner of Researcher.


Login is your ID+initials

Password is your ID+phm


When you click on a genre, you will only see books within that genre within your Lexile reading range.


Follett Shelf eBooks:


Additionally, Grissom students have access to approximately 100 eBooks via Follett Shelf


Username is the student’s ID number.

Password is the student’s last name. There are no capital letters or extra symbols.




Some useful information about the resources outside the Media Center: 


Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library:

All residents, with or without a card, are welcome to use the computers, books, and magazines while at the library.


The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library offers a variety of reading contests and programs for residents.


Visit their homepage often as their programs continue to change.
